Climate Advisory Committee for Toronto (ACT)

The Climate ACT advisory committee is a collaboration of leading sustainability academics at Toronto’s four universities (York, Toronto, Ryerson and OCAD), organized and facilitated by Ontario’s former Environment Commissioner to assist Toronto City Councillors to implement Toronto’s climate emergency declaration. The committee was organized at the invitation of several councillors, led by Councillor Mike Layton.

ACT has prepared a series of reports dealing with the implications of the energy, waste diversion, transportation, and buildings elements of the city’s TransformTO climate change plan. The energy studies were a joint project of York and Ryerson Universities. The University of Toronto developed a study on buildings issues, and the Ontario College of Art & Design University (OCAD) focused on transportation.
