On November 15, 2011, the Sustainable Energy Initiative held the third seminar event of a series, “Education and Training for the New Green Energy Economy”, at the Community Power Conference with the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association. This event took place from 9am-12noon, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and provided an overview of international renewable energy programs that are currently advancing renewable energy adoption, developing local capacity and mobilizing knowledge. SEI Co-Chair Jose Etcheverry moderated the discussion, which focussed on strategies to facilitate community power initiatives and increase public participation in renewable energy. Presenters included David Nixon (Sustainable Technologies Monitoring Coordinator, TRCA/Kortright), Adegboyega (Babs) Babasola (SEARC Lead Researcher, St. Lawrence College), Charles Diarra (RETScreen-Unido, Natural Resources Canada) and Frede Hvelplund (Professor, Aalborg University Denmark). The event was a great success thanks to the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association, presenters and all of those involved with the event.
